ASSAULT DAMAGES.

ASSESSED AT £1500. GISBORNE, This Day. At the Supreme Court, in the case Ivy Bell Carr versus Lionel Clare, a claim for £5000 damages for assault, the jury after three hours , deliberation returned a nine-to-three verdict for plaintiff for £1500 and recommended that the money be invested with the Public Trust for the benefit of Mrs Carr.

Mr Justice Salmond said that no order to that effect could be made, lie entered judgment for £1500, with costs according to scale.

Mr Burnard, counsel for defendant, intimated that he intended moving for a new trial. —Press Assn.
