PEOPLE STILL TREMULOUS. REINSTATEMENT PLEA. "SPOOKS" SUSPENSION STIPULATED. (Received 10 a.m.) MET .BOURNE, This Day. Notwithstanding the precautions taken by authorities against a recurrence of rioting in the city, the people are still nervy. Isolated demonstrations, especially - against special constables, help to keep the position tense. During a disturbance at Fitzroy three men were arrested after a constable had fired shots over their heads. A man fired a pistol at a car load of specials at Abbotsford, but The man escaped. The striking constables have offeie& to resume duty' conditional on there being no victimisation and an independent investigation of their grievances and suspension of .the "spooks** pending an inquiry. . : It. is considered that there is chance of the Cabinet at present cepting the offer, though it may be in- * clined to relent later.-—A. and N.Z.
