MAIN TRUNK SMASH.

APPARENTLY UNAVOIDABLE,

CORONER'S COMMENT.

TAUMARUNUI, This Day. The inquest into the Ongame disaster was continued yesterday.

William Robert Davidson, engineer in charge of the Frankton-Marton section of the line, said that there was no record of any boulder having fallen on this section of the line previously.

The written evidence of Hobson (the guard), Stewart (the driver) and Campbell (the fireman) was also produced. The Coroner said that so far his verdict would be that the cause of the death of those killed in the smash was accidental, but he preferred to reserve any remarks upon the mutter until he had had an opportunity of reviewing the evidence heard at the inquest. He considered no ordinary foresight could have averted the accident. Press Assn.
