HOCKEY TOURNEY.
WHITE HORSE CUP.
RODNEY HOLDS THE LEAD,
(Special to "Northern Advocate.") f AUCKLAND, This Day. At the conclusion of yesterday's play in the White Horse Cup' hockey tourney the position of the competing teams was as follows: — Rodney 4 Piako 3 ► Franklin 2 Mangawai-Albertland ... 1 Thames 1 Wliangarei '1 The tournament was continued in fine weather. The grounds had hardened, although the bumpy surface made it difficult for the ball to be easily trapped. Three-keenly contested games were decided, play being exciting in each match, ' . The holders of the Cup, Rodney, defeated Franklin by 2 goals to 0. The winners had the better of a good game, the features of which were fine work by the Rodney forwards and full-backs and the Franklin full-backs. Rod*ey played more finished hockey. Piako drew with Whangarei, 3 goals each.
Manga wai-Albertland drew with Thames with a similar goal tally.
LADIES' PROVINCIAL CUP. WHANGAREI WINS AGAIN. In the A section of the Ladies' Provincial cup Taumarunui A were again sucecssfu!, defeating Raglan by 5 goals to 0. The Rotorua team .played a better game than on Monday and defeated Auckland by 2 goals to 0. In the B section, Whangarei easily defeated Piako by 7 —o. The Vrinners have a clever, fast set of forwards, who were too strong for the opposing defence. Franklin scored its second win by defeating Taumarunui B, 3—2, after a most exciting contest, v
