Another theory is dial, the ships may have purposely gone to engage in gunrunning to Ireland.—Reuter TWENTY MISSING. IN LAST SIX MONTHS. PIRACY EVIDENCE. (Received 11 a.iv..) NEW YORK June 22. The Commerce Department ha* listed 20 ehips missing during live last six months, including the British tanker* Ottawa and Gymerie and the British schooner General Home. The other vessels include American, Italian, Japanese, Danish, Russian, Spanish, Norwegian, French and Brazilian. The piracy theory has been strengthened by the State Department 'a statement concerning the American schooner Carol A. Deeiing which was found off North Carolina in such a condition that foul play was -uspecteJ. The. crew was missing. On Ap:il 11 a bottle was pieked up off Cape ITattoras with a message reading: "Deering been captured by oil-toning boa*, something like chaser." When the Deering wa> discovered all 1-hc provisions clothing and supplies had boon removed and the lifeboats were missing. The State Department believes that other vessels may have met a similar fate. The mystery is causing a sensation in shipping cireles. Lloyd'? is joining in the investigation.—A. and kz.
