in the morning and devoted considerable "lime to discussion of- the Noxious Weeds Amendment Bill, which authorises local bodies to declare hawthorn to be a noxious weed and prohibits fuVther planting of hawthorn. The debate showed that while-mem-bers from the fruit districts' regard firs-blight a> a deadly menace, members from, dairy districts are by no means willing to give up their hawthorn hedges, and the Bill really represents a compromise between the conflicting interests. _.It was passed without. amendment.
