MANGAPAI.
BARNARDO HOMES' PICNIC,
The fourth annual picnic on behalf of the above homos, organised by Mrs Green, was held at Mr H. H. Green's lower whnrf, Mangapai, on Friday, 10th. The weather was glorious, the" heavy rain of Ihe previous day having only freshened things up, and a record crowd, especially of children, began to arrive at an early hour. Mr .Jack Nordstrand in his launch "Thor", brought the Oncrahi contingent, and Mr Joe Nordstrand in the "Britt", the people fro mthe Oakleigh end. The trip up the river was not the least pleasant part of a very enjoyable day. In the efternoon, children gave an open air entertainment, consisting of choruses, dances, recitations, duets, <tc, and a collection taken at the performance helped to swell the fund. Following is a list, of the ite^.ns:—Chorus. "Good Old New Zealand" company, recitation, "Little Cock Sparrowj" Bertie Nordstrand; dance. "Teases," Nelly Nordstrand and Doris Connolly; recitation, "Afraid," Gre'f Thompson; song, "Playtime," Betty McMillan and Rosie Draffin; recitation, "The Child Musician," Doris Connolly; chorus, "Australia," company; dance, "Gavotte," Nelly Nordstrand and Greta and Elsie Thomson; recitation, "Hospital Nurse," Rosie Pulman; recitation, "Frogs at School," Fred Drake; duet, "Will You Marry Me?" Betty McMillan and Rosie Draffin; recitation, "Cherries," Celia Connolly; song, "Lullaby," Doris Connolly and Nellie Nordstrand; rccita'.ion, "Tom, the Piper's Son," Bertie Nordstmnd; chorus, ''Going Home," company. Votes were then taken for the best items. First prize, 'Wil , Lou M)!-v Me?" Betty McMillan and Home Draffin; second, "Tom, -.he Pip i's Sori, ' Bertie "Nordstrand; third, "Teases" Nelly Nordstrand and Doris Connohv.

A meeting of flit Maugapai Tennis Club was ho d on the old court on Saturday last. Mr F. Career took <he chnir It was decided that the making of the new courts should be continued and that the proposed match with Waipu should come off shortly. Arrangements wore also made for n soerii to raise tho necessary funds for the club
