WAIPU COVE.
An enjoyable social, by the ladies, was held in the Schoolroom on Wednesday evening. The weather being propitious and roads good, quite a number of visitors motored down from the, township. • The music was supplied by Mrs Smith, who <also. contribued two songs, which were very much appreciated. The duties of M.C. were carried out by Mr D. A. Campbell, in a very efficient manner.' At the conclusion Capt. W. R. Lang,' in a brief speech, returned thanks for the very pleasant evening spent. •> Mr F. Murdoch and Mr D. A. Me-, Lean, two Marsden candidates, pass-, ed through the district early in the, week. ' . . The continued dry weather' i 3 making a serious showing, as where just a short time ago quite a respectable growth was starting, it has again become, hard and stagnant. A very nice shower fell yesterday, but it was sadly inadequate for the country's needs. Large areas are being ploughed up, for the purpose of supplying fodder for later on. Given some favourable weather for sowing, the prospect of next season should be much brighter.
Another of our soldiers, Private Turner, returned home yesterday.
