MAORI TRAGEDY.

WOMAN SHOT DEAD,
MAN IN.HOSPIT-A.L.
A message was received by the Wlhangarei police yesterday afternoon from Constable Dempaey, stationed at Kawakawa, reporting a native tragedy. The message read as follows:—
"Report just Jiat an aged Maori couple, living at Oramahoe In a tent, were attacked. Shots were heard an*fr the woman was/found dead and the man, with bullet wounds. No further particulars. GoJng out."

A Press Association message from Auckland says: '
'Meagre details of ihe tragedy which occurred at Oramahoe, near Ohaeawai, were received by telegram by the Superintendent of Police lust nigtiit. The telegram stated that the victims were two old 2-laori people, a woman named Maereana Ta,kemoana being shot dead and her husband Kemaera Haratua receiving one bullet in the breast and two in the left arm. The old man, who lias been removed to the hospital, stated thit at dusk on Thursday evening the barking , of his dogs caused him to run outside, but a strange Maori, who was coming down the hill towards the hut, instantly shot at him and wounded him. The woman then came out of the hut and was shot dead.
