THE COUNTRY'S OBLIGATION.
Mr Tremaine (Ruatangata Branch N.Z.F.U.) emphasised the fact that the farmers recognised that they wfire responsible for the great proportion of imports .and exports, and that they should pay for the harbour improvement, They were in sympathy with the attempt to get deepsea trading and freezing works, and the farmers were now moving in that direction. They could not afford to turn the Bill down.
Mr Fagan (unofficial Onerahi representative) said he had no objection to the board borrowing, but only to the way they proposed to spend the money. They had Onerahi at present, and with the-expenditure of £40,000 they, could make it a port equal to any in New Zealand. He hoped they would pass the Bill, but not carry out the scheme. (Laughter and applause).
Mr McLennan, as a member of the board and a. resident of Waipu River District,, would not exercise any vote, and he was sureno other representative of Waipu.would de.50.... :
