HUMAN NATURE CHANGES, AND METHODS OUGHT TO CHANGE.

To the Editor.) Sir,—-1 was greatly disappointed on Saturday to hear Mr Stcadman say that human nature never changed. This is contrary to history; so much so that I need not stop to prove it. But the one tiling that is painfully slow to change is the military man's disposition to predict war. 1 have heard remarks like Mr Steadman's all my life from military men. In the fifties the danger point was France; later it was Russia; at another time it was America, and so on all round the civilised world. But very little was heard about Germany, which proved to be the danger point. Was it that so much attention was given to imaginary danger, that men had no time to see the real one? One more proof of change in human nature is seen in a League of Nations to prevent war. It is new, and may requir c time .to complete its organisation. It is not too much to say that the world has had enough of war to satisfy it for some years to come, so that this New League of Nations will have time to complete its organisation. It is the work of th G ablest men of our day, and" its birth is hailed with delight by hundreds of millions of men and women. I would ask, in the name of nations bled white by war, giT e it a chance to get on its feet, and give the people A rest from military strain.—l am, etc.,

PROGRESS.
