LEST WE FORGET.

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —One outstanding feature of our Peace Celebrations, and one which 1 think was not too fully appreciated by us, was the long-sustain-ed effort of the Whangarei Municipal Band. In a measure, if it had not been for the magnificent effort of the band, our celebrations would liavo fallen very flat. It is doubtful if any other band in the Dominion did os much hard playing during tho three days' celebrations as the band in question. Some of the members, I know, were utterly exhausted by Monday evening. Therefore, I think it is up to us to give them a hearty vote of thanks for their splendid musical effort. Their Sunday evening programme at the Lyceum (kindly lent by Mrs Mason) was worth going a long way to hear. Let us hope for more in future. During the war they have had a "hard row to hoc." It reflects great credit on those members who carried on during the abtieace of a good round dozen of its members who went to light for us. Now it is up to the citizens of Whangarci to show their material appreciation of this, "our baird," help it to rise to the "pinnacle of fame" in the, N.Z. Band World, and incidently to bring our go-ahead little town in';o the limelight.—l am, etc., MUSICUS JUSTICJA.

[Undoubtedly .the Municipal Ba:id deserves all the eulogy expressed by the correspondent for its zealous and continuous help, without which the festivities would have lost much of their charm and cheerfulness, anJ t>.e "Advocate" is glad to be abV to endorse the sentiments of the forego ing letter.—Ed.'N.A. ]
