MAUNGATUROTO.
A united memorial service was held in the public hall on An/ac - evening; a large congregation ati tended. The service opened with i Jackson's "Te Deum," followed by c prayer, lesson, and address from St. 3 John 4.7, by Rev. J. C. Hawksworth, - Anglican minister of the parish. Rev. - Clyde Carr, Congregational minister, 1 supplied the second part of the ser- - vice, speaking impressively from r John 12.24. The anthem, "What 1 are these?" was rendered by the choir, and the congregation joined , in the hymns, "We hail the proclamation," "O Valiant Hearts," "For all the Saints," and "Rock of Ages." After the Benediction had been pronounced by Rev. Hawksworth, the "Last Post" was sounded by Mr J. Hyland, as the congregation stood in solemn silence. The National Anthem concluded the service. The offertory taken will be devoted to the soldiers' memorial fund. A meeting was held immediately after the service to decide a fitting form of mej morial. It was resolved to erect a ' monument and provide a memorial ; building of utility. I The annual householders' meeting j was very thinly attended on the 28th j inst. The report of the secretary 'of the school committee was adopt- ! Ed, showing the removal of the school buildings to a central site during the year. Messrs S. E. Cullen, A. H. Curtis, J. T. Dodds, T. Healey, and F. Pasley were elected members of the new committee. A farewell social was tended to Mr and Mrs Jack Finlayson and Mr and Mrs Alf. Leaf on their leaving' the district for new homes in Mangapai and Matakohe respectively. Both of the young husbands are returned soldiers, settling on farms.
