FALSE RUMOURS
REGARDING BRITISH ADMINISTRATION.
DOIXG INFINITE HARM,
Australian and NZ. Cable Association (Press Assn.—Reed. S.-JO p.m.)
LOXDOX, Xovember 29
In the House of Lords, replying to ■he rumours that Mr Lloyd George iad arbitrarily appointed a civilian (Eric Gedges) to replace a military officer in an important position in communications with France, Lord Derby denied the charges. The entire Army Council had the fullest confidence in General Haig. It was unirue that friction existed between General Haig and any member of the Council. It was impossible to equal the combination and success of Generals Haig and Robertson. The one desire of everybody in the War Office was to assist that combination. Idle rumours were calculated to do infinite harm by helping to destroy confidence. Mr Eric Gedges' post was a new one and General Haig approved of the appointment.
