THE ELECTIONS
TO-DAY'S POLLING
Despite the large number of candidates in the field, and the muchdebated question oi" the half-holiday,
the progress of voting- up to '.I p.m. to-day was slow. Even the luncheon hour did not provide any excitement, there being no rush to the booth. Comparatively speaking the lady voters were few, th 0 showers of rain which fell during the morning probably affecting their attendance. Quite a number of the candidates, well-groomed and carefully dressed, stood opposite the polling booth watching the - progress of events, with varying expressions on their faces. Brisk voting- is expected this evening, when the t of. the polling clerks will be probably much more difficult than during- the day. Various estimates are given as to the time when the counting will be completed, but the general expectation is that it will be over before 10 o'clock. The Borough Council result is expected to be made known first, the half-holiday second -and the Harbour Board last.
