INITIAL PROPOSALS.
A general committee meeting of the Whangarei Beautifying . Scenery Preservation -Society was- : held in the Borough Council Cham/./: ber last night. QUEEN CARNIVAL PROPOSAL,
A report from the Fete Committee stated that it had been' reluctantly decided that the season was too 'advanced for such an event as a swimming carnival. The weather had suddenly become cold, and It was recommended that a carnival be held instead on October 25, Labour Day, the proposal to include the election of a carnival queen. The secretary added that the Easter holidays caused two weeks' delay. , The report/wak approved. 4 , HON ENGINEER. Mr. J.. D. Whitmore was "proposed ' by the president as, honorary ekt- ■ gineer to the society. k There had been a suggestion, added the president, to obtain the services of, an outside expert. The proposal was, good and might be' 'adopted a later date, but there was work which could be done immediately without affecting a comprehensive" scheme for the Borough: v > Mr. Cutforth seconded the presl-' dene's motion, which was"; carried to applause. MANDER PARK AND TRIAttGLE. The president -further* proposed that the secretary write the Bokxmgh Council asking permission for "the secretary to take,over the beautifying of the Triangle and '. Mander Park, under the supervision of the engineer. , ;„ ' , ' Mr. McLeod seconded,/and the re,solution was adopted; -The, seconder said Mander Patfk had been neglected for a long time, • - APPEAL FOR SEATS. .V The president suggested that perhaps citizens woxtld donate seats. Three had been promised, each costing £3. On the motion of the Rev. H. Daniel it was resolved that an l appeal for seats be made.through the press by the secretary, the seats t»' be uniform in character. • .' A BALL. Mr. 11. C. Rishworth proposed, and it was, agreed to hold a 'Bbautifyinir Society's ball the first week in June. ' CHRISTY MINSTRELS. , ' " \ 'Mr. Whitmore proposed- that "a ( Christy minstrel show be given. It vtas decided that Messrs. Whitmore, McLeod and Rißhworth investigate the proposal, and also con-> slder a suggestion' put forward by > Mr. McCormick that a tableaux entertainment be, included.There was no other business.
