CARPENTER'S BLACK FACE.

MADE HI.M DIE LAUGHING.

(/•Sydney Sun" Service.)

NEW YORK, Aug. 25

Astonishment at finding himself turned into a black man caused the death of William Colbert, a carpenter, at Yonkers yesterday.

Colbert went to a cafe for lunch and fell asleep after his meal. A' practical joker borrowed a bottle of shoe polish from a bootblack and turned Colbert's face to an ebony colour, while a crowd collected to watch the result.

When the carpetner woke up he saw a lot of people looking at him curiously. Then one held a mirror before him. As soon a she had recognised himself Colbert burst out laughing uproariously and fell dead.
