LONDON, Aug. 26
In the " Daily Mail " water-plane competition Hawker continued his night to-day. He reached Beadnell at 5.30 p.m. the previous day and anchored for the night, the actual flying occupying 623Jmin. There was a fog at Netley, and a haze at Ramsgate, and the 'pianist travelled steadily over these places. Then he volplaned down and gently broke the water outside the harbour. There Avas a big crowd on both piers. Xext mdrning the breeze was light, and the machine moved slowly along the water. Then it sped forward and upward on the northward stage, ninety-six miles to Yarmouth, which Hawker completed in ninety minutes. There was brilliant weather at Scarboro, and enormous crowds thronged the cliff tops. One hundred and fifty miles were covered in ISS minutes.
Hawker encountered many gusts, and one minute the water plane was flying at a height of 3000 feet, and* the next was down to 500 feet.
Immense crowds assembled at all the control stations to welcome Hawker. The conditions continue to be excellent, except so far as coastal fogs are concerned.
Hawker is well. Kaiife, his companion, who was upset by the wind, has recovered. The airman was delayed 'at Beadnell and Montrose for engine adjustments, and afterwards averaged l>B miles an hour. Hawker left Aberdeen, hoping to reach Dublin via Oban, a distance of 450 miles, which is one of the most difficult stages, to-day, otherwise he has slight hope of success.
Cromarty was reached at 2.'5 p.ni.t the journey of 134 miles being covered in 130 minutes.
f Later. Hawkey has arrived at Oban. where he remains for the night.
