PUHI PUHI FIELD
VERY ACTIVE OPERATIONS REPORTED.
During the past six months mining operations in the Puhi Puhi district have been very active. An area of 1500 acres has been taken up in various mining rights, the majority of claims being for 100-acre allotments. For the period under review 33 miners' rights have issued, and 12 applications have still to be considered. This week a meeting of shareholders of an Auckland syndicate that holds something in the vicinity of 900 acres is to be held for the purpose of forming a company with working capital for operating silver and cinnabar reefs. .Some" time ago this syndicate let an option for six months to a southern firm with a Capital of £3000 to enable them to place machinery on the ground to make a thorough test of the quality of the ore. The plant has been selected, and is ready to go on the ground, but owing to the bad state of the roads has not yet been carted to the claim, and the Auckland syndicate is now being asked to extend the option for a further period. This matter is to. be dealt with at the meeting to be held this week at Auckland. Experts representing English capitalists have lately visited the field, and they are more than favourably impressed with the prospects of Puhi Puhi. In fact it is understood that a Whakapara syndicate has extended an option to them of claims covering an, area of some 300 acres, the figure quoted being £15,000 cash and 15,000 fully paid up £1 shares in a company to be promoted in England. One of the experts leaves for England to-day to consult his principals and report on the field. He is confident that there will be 500 men on the field within the next twelve months. He has informed persons interested that Puhi Puhi is one of the best fields he has ever seen, and he has visited the mines in Spain and Mexico. On behalf of their principals the experts have applied to the Warden's Court for 400 acres of land in the Puhi Puhi district, and this application will be heard on September 16th at the Court in Whangarei. They are also making inquiries in regard to the ownership of the land in the vicinity of the mineral springs at Kawakawa, 'with a view to making a test of the quality of the cinnabar ore there.
