MELBOURNE, March 10

' A drag containing twenty-two picnickers had a miraculous escape at a level crossing on the Brighton railiwav on Saturday night. The drag was right on the metals when, a train approached. The gates being only half open prevented the driver of the drag manoeuvring the horses straight across, so he hurriedly decided to attempt to escape by driving the team along the line towards Brighton. The horses responded well, ana moved in the direction of before the passengers rea ised then danger. The drag was almost clear of the line when the train dashed up aid struck the rear corner.knocking j off the near hind wheel and tearing out the side, leaving the passengers still sitting on the se . at m _ _ th Tames Neil Alison jumped off tne drag Sn the wrong direction, and was the train alighted and swarmed along the line in search of possible victims. ~
