A HUGE RESERVOIR.
LONDON'S WATER SUPPLIES. LONDON, March 15. King George, in opening the Chilford reservoir to-day, said it was bigger than Hyde Park, and capable of floating a Dreadnought. Mr. H. A. Humphreys, the engineer, had devised five pumps, each capable of raising 40,000 gallons 25ft from the liver Lea daily. The power was derived from explosions of gas replacing centrifugal pumps. Mr. Will Thorne, M.P.. refused to j meet their Majesties, as he did not believe their visit to Stratford would, mitigate the chronic poverty within the borough.
