A SUBMARINE EARTHQUAKE.

SYDNEY, Feb. 8.

The Nord Deutcher liner Scharnhorst, while crossing the Indian Ocean en route to Australia on January 19 vibrated violently from end to end, the vibration resembling that> caused on a steamer by the engines running full speed astern.

The startled passengers rushed on deck. It was a delightfully calm night and mdonlight. It is explained that the incident was caused by a submarine earthquake.

The shock lasted forty-five seconds
