Fry, interviewed by "Sporting Life," said that Foster and Douglas were goodi county captains, but a captain who was , a bowler could not use himself properly. It. was a pity that' Jessop was absent. Jessop declined because only £70 was allowed for expenses, and the previous Australian trip had cost him £150 out of his own pocket. Fry personally considered that the financial arrangements for amateurs going to Australia were vnsatisfactory. A man earning his living could not afford to undertake large representative tours.
