HORTICULTURAL SHOW.
A FINE DISPLAY,
The Marsden Horticultural Society opened their annual exhibition of flowers, fruit and vegetables in Mr S. McMahon's sample rooms to-day. There was a fair attendance, and this afternoon the standing accommodation was well taxed by lovers of Nature's handiwork. The space set apart for exhibits was fully occupied, and there wa3 an excellent exhibition of many delightful varieties of flowers. There was a large number of sweet peas on show, and these caMed for a good deal of f:i\orable comment. An exhibit of orchids displayed by Mr D. Hay, of Auckland, received considerable attention. The annuals and perennials were at their best, and those on exhibition were an excellent illustration of the capabilites of the district for horticulture. It is rather late in the season for roses, Lut those on view to-day were of fine varieties, while pansies, carnations, and stocks v/ere shown in full and large blooms. The art displayed by many exhibitors in fashioning flowers into wreaths, bouquets, and table, decorations was very creditable. Vegetables were well represented, and some fine samples of garden produce were exhibited.
The increased number of entries, and the beautiful display of flowers' showed what can he produced from the soil in "the salubrious climate of the sunny North if only cultivation were more generally followed.
The judges were Messrs E. O. Weaver (vegetables), and Mr Karl Ritz, of the firm of D. Hay, florists and seedsmen, Auckland.
