BY ONE VOTE.

EXETER ELECTION^PETITION.

UNIONIST SECURES THE SEAT.

LONDON, April 11. After a hearing lasting six days the Exeter election petition has been derided in favor of Mr H. E. Duke (U.).. who has been declared elected by one vote. The scrutiny was most exciting, ,'md the fortunes of the candidates veered about until to-day, when the parties started level. Mr H. St. Maur's tally clerk admitted having been paid for his services, and his vote was disallowed, thus giving the election to Mr Duke.

(At the general election in December Mr St. Maur (L.) was declai'ed successful by four votes.)
