AUCKLAND, Feb. 23

A case which appears to be one of .attempted suicide was discovered in Ponsonby yesterday morning.

A young man named Gibb, who only recently arrived from Home, was in lodgings, and his landlady, on going to his room to wake him, found him in an unconscious condition, with a •I'ottle labelled "morphia" beside him. He was conveyed to the hospital, but small hopes are entertained for his recovery.

Letters were found in the room in*iicating that he contemplated suicide.
