NATIVE TOWNSHIPS BILL.
It is stated that considerable dissatisfaction exists in the King Count.-y in regard to the Native Townships Bill. The settlers want the right to buy the freehold direct from the Maori Land Board, but the Bill makes th.it impossible. The provision in the E.II is that the Government have the sole right of purchasing sections in a Native township, and they may buy or not as they feel inclined, and sell or not as they feel inclined. The Bill has yet to pass its third reading in the House. It is understood that the Government contemplates introducing several amendments (not, however, touching this aspect), and these have been referred to the Crown Law Office for advice as to their legal effect.
