(From our own Correspondent) Mb Hugh Mclieod, bookkeeper at Mr K. McDonald's store, was down with low fever, and Dr. Mauntain, his medical attendant, dispaired of his recovery ; but now, under a continuation of good nursing, he is likely soon to be as woll as ever. County works are under way early this year, and are progressing very well indeed. It shows good judgement on the part of tho Council and County Engineer to start the works so early, as, if the works are completed early they will have the benefit of being under traffic during the summer, and will therefore be hard and compact enough to carry the winter I traffic. Formerly, those works used to bo I left till the end of the summer month, I with the consequent slush and mud following tho winter traffic on newly formed clay roans. (Jrops are promising to bo something excellent this season ; tho weather being all that can be desired to make things grow ; and what is encouraging to the agriculturalist and of the settlement, is the fact that, although we had two reaping machines at work last season, we are the coming season to have in addition a reaper aud .binder to help in our harvest operations. The reaper and binder is.introduced by Mr Donald McDonald, North River. I heartily wish him success with his venture, and hope he will be able to get his machine to travel on our rough roads. Owing to the improvement in business throughout the Northern province such machines are now a necessity, because nearly every available working man has left the place and found work elsewhere, so that harvesting would have to be done otherwise under difficulties
I and loss to tlie farmer. All the different committees arc beginning to make arrangements for the forthcoming sports and amusements during the holidays ; audi have no doubt with our well organised Caledonian Society things will be made pretty lively here.
