PETITION TO THE QUEEN.
A petition to the Queen, asking her to disallow the Native Policy Bill, will be presented to the Governor to-day by a number of Maori chiefs, for transmission to Her Majesty. Mr R. Thompson leaves "Wellington on Friday, by Tarawera, for Auckland. The Auckland City Council have effected large retrenchments in all officer's salaries. Invercargill, Wednesday. John Maloney is committed for trial on a charge of attempting to murder Dr. Galbraith by shooting him. The affair took place on the 19th of June, but the doctor was unable to walk out of his house till to-day. He received one hundred pellets in his left thigh, thirty-three of which have been since extracted, j He is now out of danger. I i
