London, January 11. A dense fog, which prevailed throughout the greater part of the United Kingdom to-day, seriously interfered with business, and several accidents and fatalities have been reported.

Steamers plying between Folkesstone and Boulogne had to cease running, in consequence of the fog. London, January 13. Five days darkness has been experienced in Birmingham, and much excitement was caused, as it was thought that the world had come to an end* Some of the local preachers

had prophesied that the world would end on the 14th.

London, 13th

The dense fog which has been experienced during the past few days is now lifting, except in the Midlands, where it is as black as night. Many casualties have occured.
