PARUA BAT.
Now that the great " War " is over (the election) things have gone back into their old state one more. " At the time Mr George Ross painted the scenery for the Parua Hall, and wrote on it the words " Advance Parua," little did he think that it would make such rapid progress . Another store has been erected by a Mr Smith to compete against Messrs Hustt and Harnetfc. The two latter storekeeps are old established people, and therefore it^,ill|j!ffi^gTOat deal in their favou^HK^^^BMLa^s to be revived i^Bß^KtiS^Sa^B^^^BfcKjirdftV'A
meeting was held, when it was decided to form a cricket field at the back of the Hall. Mr Alfred Huett is treasurer, and Mr Henry Morey secretary. Already some three aci 6s are cleaned. We have experienced a great deal of westerly winas of late, and if it does not soon discontinue a large amount of fruit will be spoiled. On Tuesday last, as a lad by the name ofßelgrove, of this place, was ndmg over a wet bridge at a smart pace, his horse supped and fell, throwing Belgrove violently to the ground. The violence of the fall was such that the lad was picked up quite insensible, blood flowing freely from both ears, and evidently in a precarious state. The frequency of the habit of passing over wet wooden bridges without checking the horse, is the cause of many accidents, and cannot be too strongly condemned.
