("From our own Corespondent.) -___ THJNGiS are subsiding—down to their natural level now that the election is over and our candidate returned. We had great, rejoicing when we heard the final result: Hobbs 669, Lundon 523, majority for Hobbs 146. We have beard that Thompson is returned for Marsden, but we know nothing definite. The- weather has been something, awful. Many here will have their crops late in consequence. The ordinary meeting of our Mutual' Improvement Association was held on Saturday evening, the 24th September ; subject, a lecture by Mr James Nicholson on "Geology, with special reference to the geology of the district." The lecture occupied An hour and a quarter in delivery, and was favourably received and criticised in terras of commendation by 'Messrs B. C. Walker, D. M. Anderson, W. H_ Nicholson,, and the Bey. Mr Loughin. It was announced by the President that the next meeting will be held on the Bth of October, when the Roy. I?. Walsh will give on his tour through America. x _t_r#ote of thanks to the lecturer concluded the meeting.
