In Dunedin
Once ag|2,in, the election results have proved the working people of Dunedin t o be mainly conservative, or else badly press-ridden. The Welfare League w'fth i'is pseudo-logic, the P.P.A.' with its wild assel , tiojis i and the daily papers with their constant leaders, fall pounding away _t Labour I must' have a disastrous effect on wobbly Electors. Thero has beien a certain amouiit of dirty work, too, done by our opponents' supporters, j such as the spreading of slanderous rumours, and the 'd:strit>ut : ,ng of a ridiculous pamphlet', about Socialist. Sunday Schools. Th/S candidate in whose electorate this last took place, denied all knowledge of the pamphlet when taxed with the mai'iter at one of his meetings.
_ However, we are gllid that Mr. Munro lias again won through.. Considering everything; each o£ our candidates polled remarkably well, and they are -by no downhearted, rather strengthened in_ their resolutions to carry on. Thiere is a possibility of a libel aot,ion being , brought .against the "EvenJng Star" by one ol our candidates for statements of a defamatory nature, pubTalied after the writ had been issued. The Amalgamated Engineers'■ Union have now to consider how to deal with those members who have so far forgotten their duty to their fellow men as to act the part of ''£r;e labourers,'* by manning ftto U.S.S. Co.'s ■•[steamers. This popular company made the ch/oice one of t'aft dcv.l and the deep tea ordar. those of their staff, who refused service on the boats, being' dismissed either immediately or at tlie Company's pleasure,—F.M.T.
