Westport Greets Holland

A great throng- welcomed Mr. 11. E. Holland,'M.P., at a welcome home social on his arrival at Westport, and he was received right . royally. The chairman and "Mr. J. Baker, who represented the ■ seamen on the s.s. Titoki, lavished praise on the Labour Party'' leader, ami a motion thanking him for his faithful service was carried with acclamation. On rising to reply, the gathering sang "For he's, a -jolly; good fellow," and gave lusty cheers. Mr. Holland said the session which had just passed had been a strenuous one. Many late sittings left only time for four or Hve hours' sleep in the day. The sitting had been a long-drawn-out one* particularly towards the end, and this had left him not a great deal of time to get to the four corners of his electorate. He would do so, however, even if he had to speak three times a day. He would like to have been able to help others in the fight for Labour representation, but circumstances had rendered it impossible. , He. had no fear of the result in the Buller electorate. There was no j danger, and the other, side knew it. He appreciated .very much...'the 'action taken by the. ladies in; this and the last election. He owed his success, he thought to the ladies' committee in Grey as well as here. The women could always be depended on to carry through the work they undertook. He intended this time to make the. ! campaign a fighting one every inch of the way. He anticipated a larger winning majority this time than last; also that Labour would be a great deal triumphant at the coming polls. , In conclusion, he thanked the promoters of the welcome home social heartily, and the ladies.very, much for their f-hAi.cvijtful gift—a gold-ranunt-u. nen.
