STATE OF GERMANY
M. Philips Price, writing from Berlin.— Since the New Year there has been a steady deterioration in food conditions in Germany. I know in Berlin un-skilled working-clans families who are trying to keep iheir head above water on wages equivalent in English money to about 10/- a week. These families get horseflesh sausages about once a fortnight, and their mid-day meals consist of potatoes and cabbage without fat. On the other hand, the rural population in Germany is living as well an before the war. and in the towns the prosperous bourgeoisie and the profiteers can dine at expensive reaturants.
The question of emigration to Soviet. Russia is already being seriously taken, up by Labor and Left Socialist circles in Germany. The Soviet Government is ready to afford facilities for skilled workmen of all countries to go to Russia, and meetings have already been held in Leipzig, Berlin and Hamburg of branches of the Emigration Society, to discuss ways and means.
