A Successful Conference

It has now -been announced that the agrement arrived at by the Conference between representatives of the Dominion employers of waterside labor and the New Zealand Waterside

Workers' Federation has been adopted by the different unions. Increased pay has been arranged and la to date from February 1. The agreement Is for two years. • •

The main points in the agreement arrived at are:—An Increase of 3d per hour for ordinary time; 5d per hour hour for ordinary overtime (overtime between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m.) and 9d per hour for special overtime (overtime between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m.). These increases are to date from and including February sth, 1920.

All work done after, nooa on Saturdays is to be classed - as~special overtime. Several classes of cargoes have been added to the list of special cargoes. Fractional time provides that half an hour, is the least time to be paid for, instead of quarter of an hour in the previous agreement. There is very tlitle alteration in the other conditions. The following ports have been brought under the agreement:— Whakatane, Opotiki, Tauranga, Tokomaru Bay, Wairoa, Waitara, and Patea.
