INSPECTORS' REPORTS

The following are the most recent workmen's inspectors' reports which have been received:—

TAUriRI COLLIERY EXTENDED MINE

Sunday, March 28.—We, in company with J. Mackenson and C. Atttrell, have this day examined the No. 4 and portion of No. 3 dip workings on the West Side. We report as follows:— We went into the old workings at No. 2, made our way down to No. 3 dip, continued down along the brick stoppings till we came to the No. 4 return. Here we found a "fall." We got distinct Firedamp cap here. There is also Black damp present. We came right round all the Bords, where the fall can bo seen until we cam.c to Bumby's Ladder. Distinct evidence of crush is present here. The whole area is still falling and quite heavy crush is still on. We then came through on to the No. 4 Main Dip. We found C.H. Firedamp at the winch on the Passly, about 3J per cent, where the recent heating took place. Thi3 area is too dangerous to enteir—due to crush. We found no indications of firestink. We then, proceeded to examine the places right up to the intake side to Dooley and Hartos steps. In the Barrier Bord wo found a large volume of firedamp. The crush is travelling towards this Barrier. We came up these steps and examined the places in top section, then on to No. 4 Dip. We are of the opinion that the return airway will close up soon- in this area. Steps should be taken , to flood and isolate this active section as soon as possible. —A. LEES, A. L. ROBERTS.
