Woolston S.D.P.
I__| . )| ANNUAL MEETINC. ■ I Ths annual meeting of the Wools ton j ?.]).!•. was held in the Druids' Hall jon September _.nd, 191 5. ' j j Tiie balance sheet ' showed a very, : satisfactory state of things, ■ not with-; islanding that the Branch- had spent ■ab.iiit £'■'} upon elect ions during the j ;hv-t twelve months, we ' ftnisked up | "'with a credit balanco of £U. j *i The Woolston S.D.P. must surely! 1 ( hold tiie record ' amongst S.D.P'. - "ranches for the 'number 'of public' '■j position's held by members. We] 'j can 'count amongst ' our members '; iin M.P.. a mayor, two city council-j ''■ tors, six borough, councillors, and a ro- j | prcjeniaiivo on tho Lyttelton Harbor j '! hoard., also two "members'on the Wool- ! stnn School Committee;, the most; |: pleasing feature .about this is that, ' I with tho exception of the two •' city ] '■councillors, tho whole of tlk-so mem-j ! hers have been placed upon these dii'-j 'I l'eielit public bodies' through the efforts| 1 j of' tho Woolston S.D.P. . ! ', Little or no propagada work has | j been done during tho'last few months,! ': tho public'ate hardly in tho frame of ! mind foi-' that "kind" of' thing. ' Clir '' efforts have been directed towards ! , keeping our members together. • We ", believe our timo' will come, when the !. wiir is over. The Labour and Socialist 'movement will then have- the chance '.of a lifetime' in getting its principles I accepted by tiie people. '! The social side of our branch has ' j been well-attended to by our social I !committee. During the'winter they '.ran fifteen socials which yielded a'pro--1 fit to tho branch of £8, also encour- '[ aging comradeship and good fellowship amongst our members, the good results being' largely due to our energetic social secretary, Comrade Pennell. Dur- ' ing the year a choir has been formed in connection with tho branch, several * of our members being gifted vocally, I ifc was felt that by being formed into a choir they could render service by >; singing at social functions in the La- '' hour and Socialist movement. The I I choir has already sung at the Tailors' 1 1 and Tailorcsses' Union social in the * Trades Hall, and at the Socialist Party's ' social. They havo also given a concert ', on their own behalf, in Woolston, 1 which yielded the handsome profit of ! £10. Wo aro anxious that, our choir I ... 1 shall occupy the same position in our ' j movement, hpre as the Clarion Choirs 'i do iv the Socialist movement in Eng- - 1! land. We are still short of voices in ' t all parts, especially alto 3 and basses. [ If there are any comrades in Christ- ; c-Lurch who like' part sinking and ha-ve ' voices at all tunable, we invite them to ■ j our rehearsals in the Druids' Hall, ' j Woolston, at 7.3D p.m. every Monday i night. , j Tho following wore elected officers 1 j for tho coming year: President, C I Hill; Vice-president, .1. Roberts; Sec- ' | rotary (left over until next meeting); : i Social Secretary, F. Robinson; Litera- ' j ture Secretary, G. Borrows ; Executive. 1 j —T. Burstey,, W. Virtue, C. White, "lE. Roberts, and H. Harper. '[ J. ROBERTS, Secretary.
