Green Island Grievances.
Another member of the Green Island Miners I'd inn has been dismissed after refusing to alloAv the company to transgress upon his legal rights. ' Thus history repeat; itself, in so far as the Mining Companies of Green Island are concerned. They are courting trouble. l\y and by they Avill get it. The case in dispute in this instance is that of l)i\.n MeLachlan, Avho refused to accept .small coal pay for round coal which he had mined." The Inspector of Awards sued the Mining Company for a breach of award, the S.M. found them guilty. Two days later Mac-
Ladhlan was dismissed, no reason being given for his dismissial. Attempts by the local Union to bring about '■ re-instateme-nt ihavo proven futile. The Otago Miners' Union, through Mr. Ridd, met with no greater success. In the meantime the Green Island miners are levying themselves '2s per fortnight to assist their comrade whilst they aw-ait developments. Being tied to the C. and A. Act the Otago miners are unable to take those steps necessary to enforce justice being done their comrade. Signs are not wanting, however, that before very long the Otago miners will follow the lead of other N.Z. miners unions and get out of the clutches of the Act. Then perhaps cuspcs of victimisation will be considerably reduced.
