TUAPEKA COUNTY JOCKEY CLUB

The annual meeting of the above club was held on Tuesday, Ist February. There was a good attendance of members, though several Lawrence members were absent. Apologies were received from several country members. In the absence of the President l(Mr D. Cummings). Mr C. M. Jackman was voted to the Chair. The balance sheet showed a credit of £6B 16s 7d, compared with a similar balance last year of £7 18s 6d. In addition to this the club expended approximately £2O in improving the drainage of the track, at the top end of the course. The officers were re-elected with the following exceptions:— President; Mr Gordon H. Williams. Treasurer; Mr H. E. Pitt. There was quite an animated discussion on the question of stakes, and after several motions and amendments were moved, it was resolved that £6OO be given in stakes this year, an increase of £IOO. There was a big discussion on the question of ladies’ tickets and after several amendments it was decided to leave matters as at present, i.c. three ladies tickets. There was a big discussion on the question of the transfer of the lease of the club’s freehold property from Lawrence Meat Co/., Ltd. to Mr D. Munro, and it v/?.s resolved that the matter be kit in the hands of the Grounds Committee subject to the grounds being left in order. The newly-elected President ■(Mr G. H. Williams) referred to the death of Mr E. C. Browne and Mr J. K. Simpson (honorary life members of the club), and also the the death of Mr Stewart Fletcher, who was a member of the club, and who had given quite a lot of legal advice to the club, for which no charge was m.ade. As a mark of respect to the deceased members, those present Stood in silence.
