Obituary

MRS T. A. MICHELLE The residents of Roxburgh district sustained a severe shock on Thursday the 24th, when it became known that Mrs Michelle, wife of Mr T. A. Michelle, who has been in indifferent health for some months, had passed away that morning. As an active worker in social matters, particularly in connection with the Presbyterian Church and the Plunket Society, she' had endeared herself to everyone and her death in the prime of life has caused widespread grief. I Mrs Michelle was a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Wm. Angus of Papakaio. She received her primary education at the Papakaio school and then attended the Waitaki Girls’ High School where she qualified for admission to the Dunedin Training College. Her first appointment was to the Roxburgh School where she taught for some time. Promotion to Hiliend followed and from there she went to Flemington in Canterbury. At each of these schools she proved herself to be a most successful and efficient teacher. She was very popular with the children and took a great interest in them. At Flemington she started a Junior Red Cross and under her leadership the children presented a cot to the Childrens’ ward at the Ashburton Hospital, this being the first cot donated to the hospital. There are now 11 of these cots in the ward.

In April of 1925 Mrs Michelle was married to Mr T. A. Michelle, and took up her residence in Roxburgh, associating herself with many social activities. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church Committee, the Ladies’ Guild and the P.W.M.U. She was also a member of the Plunket Society.

The funeral took place on Saturday 'afternoon and was largely attended. The members of the Loyal Roxburgh Lodge of which the deceased’s husband is a member marched in front of the cortege. Rev. Mr Heggie conducted the funeral service. General sympathy is felt for Mr T. A. Michelle and his three young children who are left to mourn the loss of a devoted wife and mother.
