MR RUSSELL AT WAIMATE.
Waimate, April 8. Mr G. W. Russell, M.P., for Avon, addressed about three hundred electors this evening, and had a.g°°d hearing. The address was on the lines of those already given at other centres, and at the conclusion a motion was carried unanimously that thanks be accorded him for his address, and the hope expressed that the Liberals and Progressive Party under Sir Joseph Ward would be returned to power at the cominj election. THE WANGANUI SEAT.
Wanganui, April 8. At a largely atteaded meeting, thoroughly representative of the combined local branches of the New Zealand Political Reform League, Mr Fred Pirani (chairman and ex-M.P.) was unanimously selected to contest the Wanganui seat in the interests of the Ueform Party. CANDIDATES AND SEATS.
The Hon. A. L. Herdman will again stand for Wellington North, the Hon. F. M. B. Fisher for Wellington Centred, and Dr Ne%vman for Wellington East. Mr Wright will again contest Wellington South, as a Government candidate, with Mr Hincimarsh, who defeated him three years ago. Mr T. M. Wilford will seek rVelection for the Hutt. Messrs Samuel and Bennington have both announced their candidature in the Reform interest for that 6eat, but the Government . are not committed to either.
Sitting members will be candidates for the following Wellington country seats :—Wairarapa North, Mr Buick ; Palmerston, Mr Guthrie; Rangitikei, Mr Newman ; Masterton, Mr Sykes ; Pahiatua, Mr Escott.
Pastor Joseph Clark, an ex-Baptist minister, will oppose Mr 'Poland (liberal), the sitting member, for Ohinemuri.
Mr Ken. S. Williams, of Tuparoa, it the accepted Government candidate for the Bay of Plenty electorate, for which Mr W. D. S. Mac Donald: i« the present member.
Mr Dash (Prohibitionist) and Mr Francis (of Waimate) are already in the field for the Waimate seat, for which Mr F. H. Smith will not 'seek re-election.
Mr W. H. Field will be the Ministerial candidate for Otaki against Mr Robertson (Labour), the sitting member.
Mr John Duncan has again thrown down the gage to Mr McCallum for the Wairau seat.
Colonel Hayhurst will bej the Ministerial candidate for Temuka, for which Mr T. Burton will not seek re-election. Mr G. M. Thomson will have Mr W. Belcher as his opponent for Dunedin North.
Mr J. T. Johnson will oppose Mr CJark for Chalmers. One or two others may probably enter the field later on.
Mr Parker McKinlay, of Bonhar, will be the Liberal standard-bearer for Bruce against the Hon. Jas. Allen. The Opposition will not put forward a candidate for the Grey seat. It is understood that Mr R. McNab will contest Hawke's Bay or another seat in the Representative Chamber. The name of Mr J. A. Macaherson is mentioned as likely to enter .the lists either against Mr E. P. Lee" for Oamaru or Mr R. Scott for Otago Central.
It is whispered that an ex-suburban Mayor will be be the Ministerial candidate for Dunedin South. There should be an interesting dual between His.Worship the Mayor and Mr H. D. Bedford for the Dunedin West seat for which the Hon. J. A. Millar will not seek re-election.
So far no Opposition candidate has been announced either for Dunedin Central or for Wakatipu. Mr A. W. Hogg will again be the Opposition standard-bearer for Masterton, and Mr W. T. Jennings will again present himself for the electors of Taumaranui.
