London, April 7. lhe Privy I'outncil dismissed the appeal by Mr Channinr Arnold, editor of the Rurmah Critic, who in I**l2 was sentenced to a year'- imp; isoninetii on a charge of defamation of a magistrate named Andrew at Mongul (Southern Ruining). Mi" Arnold accused an Australian named If, R. McCoi miek, D.5.0.. a rubb r planter at Victoria Point, of abducting a native nirl. and said that McCormick was u rough ac uitt'vl by the magistrate. Met ormic'< admitted that he paid a woman - u rupees !£"_'). and adopted her daughter aged. 12. hoping to cure her of a disease. The girl afterwards lived at his butngalow< for three months. The magistrate held that the charges v.ere trumped up by McCormick "enemies, and that his real motives were purely philanthropic. \rnold. who is Mr Edwin Arnold's -on, alleged that tie' whole inquiry v\a.- irregular.
