It was pointed out that the Sportsgrounds were the only suitable area where tne sports could be held. The Showgrounas did not have a full 440 yards course on the grass and the lighting was not adequate for continuing the sports meeting at night. Cr. Aitchison said that the council was anxious that everything possible should be done to promote the interests of sports in t£e city, and while realising that the cricket association would find it difficult to maintain their schedule of games, thought that some suitable arrangements might be made. Only the oval would be required for tne sports.

Mr. Ongley said he thought the association should assist a kindred sports organisation, and although they were hard-pressed for time in which to maintain their competitions and other hxtures, he thought some arrangements could be made to make the oval available. On the motion of Mr. Kempson, seconded by Mr. Mullins, it was decideu to grant the application. The United Sports Club wrote complaining of the dangerous condition or the No. 3 wicket at the Sportsground, and the Tokomaru Club lodged a complaint regarding the condition of No. wicket.

The chairman said that five suen complaints had been received this season and the time had arrived when the association should report the matter to the Palmerston North City Council tor early consideration. If the wickets were dangerous now they would be even more so when the 'ground haa dried out more thoroughly. At the present time the wickets were definitely unfit for play.

It was decided to advise the Hawke's Bay Association that January 22 23 and 24 would be suitable dates for the challenge for the Hawke Cup (of which Manawatu are the present holders). Nelson, who have also been granted the right of challenge, wrote requesting dates, and it was decided to advise them of the dates allotted to Hawke's Bay.
