Cricket
The games of the second round of the local cricket competitions were begun during the weekend. Railways defeated Brewery by an innings and 5 runs. The game between Town A and Town B proved a close and exciting game, Town A were 19 runs in front on the lirst innings, but Town B declared in their second innings with the score 0 for 95, leaving Town A 40 minutes’ play, and they were all out with only 4 minutes’ play left leaving Town B in the lead by four runs. Brewery went into bat first and were dismissed for 36 runs (Sellwood 18; Symonds 4 for 6, Cross 4 for 20, Le Bas 1 for 0, Portas 1 for 10). Railway in their first strike made 103 (Le Bas 31, Crawford 26, Clapcott 23, Cross 14, Sellwood 3 for 15, Larkin 4 for 42, Bryson 3 for 37). Brewery were 67 runs behind and were all out for 62 in their second innings (Better 18, Larkin 14, Sellwood 14; Portas 6 for 11, Symonds 3 for 13, Le Bas 1 for 3). In*the game between the Town teams “B” won the toss and elected to bat, compiling 69 (Friend 27, King 11, Fulton 11; L. Vo well 3 for 12, Knapp 4 for 25, Wyme 1 for 1, Lane 1 for 2, McKinlay 1 for 4). “A” in their first innings made 87 (Knapp 35; Groves 4 for 28, Hutchinson 3 for 4, Friend 3 foj 21). In “B’s” second innings the score board read 6 for 95 when they declared, leaving 40 minutes of play loft (Beale 27, Grove 17, Hutchinson 16, Smith 10; McKinlay 2 for 27, Lane 1 for 2). “A” went into bat, requiring 77 runs to win. They were dismissed for 73, Coleman a lad of 13 years, taking 3 wickets for 3 runs (Lane 27, Tattle 14, Spinett 10; Coleman 3 for 3, Groves 6 for 15).
