Notes of the Day
Infectious disease cases in the Manawatu County for the quarter ended September 30 totalled 12, made up of 10 oases of scarlet fever and two cases of erysipelas. Seven of the cases occurred in the southern part of the county.
The high wind and sunshine which followed on combined to undo the good resulting from the rain which fell over Feilding yesterday morning. Everybody agrees that the countryside has had more than sufficient of wind since November dawned.
Held up on account of bad weather last summer, it was resolved at yesterday's meeting of the Manawatu County Council to request the Public Works Department for an assurance thdt the bulldozing work of levelling the ground in tho Makowhai drainage area be completed this summer.
With patriotic activities now almost at an end the Feilding and district organisation known as Zone E is to meet next week for a “wash-up" meeting. The zone has worked enthusiastically throughout the war and has won a very meritorious record for unstinted service in the cause of patriotic effort.
At tho week-end, the following Feilding bowling rinks will engage Manawatu at Feilding: Ingram, Eaton Allen, Wenham (s); Nicholson. Fair weather, Eichlcr, Murch (s); F. Jarrett Sargisson, Hayward, Tingey (s); MeColl, Stichbury, Packer, Dnmraer (s); Bell, Rosoman, Mitchell, McAvoy (s); Robson, Phillips, Walton, Rodgers (s).
No further overtime is to be permitted by the Manawatu County Council. This step has been resolved upon because of recent wage adjustments involving the payment of an additional £ISOO per annum on account of wages. It was explained that this added impost had not been budgeted for and the council could not continue to face the payment of overtime.
Business premises are at a premium in Feilding, there being an unsatisfied demand on the part of new interests who seek to provide service for tne town and district. A number of returned servicemen have already rehabilitated themselves and others are seeking premises in which to start out. But for the unfortunate building restrictions, Feilding would be providing additional business premises to meet the growing population.
