Death of Two Indian “Methuselahs”
BOMBAY, Nov. 9. Two of the best-known inhabitants of the “Methuselah" quarter of Bhopal, Beewan Bibi, a woman aged 122 years, and Marfat Shah Khan, a. mnn, aged 110, died to-day in the street in which both spent their whole lives. The street consists of a number of two-roomed apartments inhabited by at least six centenarians and dozens of others on the threshold of their centuries. The most colourful inhabitant is Chand Bibi Sahaba, a woman, aged 134, who was born when King George 111 was on the Throne. Her younger brother, Shaikh Sardar, is aged 113. Another inhabitant, Umrao Bibi, aged 110, survived attacks of plague and cholera when 108 without medical aid. All these old people declare that they have always shunned special diets.
