Most Australians in Malaya Recovered

NEARLY 4000 KNOWN TO HAVE DIED Received Friday, 11.5 p.m. MELBOURNE, Nov. 9. Of 17,841 members of the Eighth Division who w r ere captured when Singapore fell, 13,646 arc alive and home or on their way home. A total of 3860 are known to have died, including ten whose deaths occurred after they were recovered. Only 335 members of the Division have not been accounted for. Special recovery parties are still searching every area in which Australians served or were imprisoned in an attempt to locate men still unaccounted for.
