Manawatu County Council
The monthly meeting of the Mana; w r atu County Council was held at Sanson yesterday, Councillor R. Craig (chairman) presiding. There were also present Councillors W. E. Barber, B. S. Lawrence, B. L. Henderson, N. Reinhart, C. S. Hunt and E. N. Rowe. The following correspondence was dealt with:—
From the Manawatu Regional Planning Council forwarding a copy of minutes of a recent meeting. —It was agreed that the chairman represent the council on tho new organisation. From Public Works Department advising that the question of a contribution to repairs of roads in the Ohakea district was still under review.—Received.
From the Feilding Borough Council regarding new by-law covering live stock using the Aorangi bridge at Feilding which makes it an offence for any vehicle to enter upon the bridge while stock are being moved across the structure. —The county clerk reported that he had notified approval of the bylaw and the Council approved his action. From the Kairanga County Council advising that a conference of interested local bodies on the subject of the allocation of heavy traffic license fees would be held on September 4. —The chairman was appointed delegate. From the Waimairi County Council asking support towards the protest against the proposed legislation which is designed to appropriate the county’s electrical assets valued at £130,000 without any compensation.—Agreed to support the protest. From the Manawatu Rabbit Board requesting the clearing of a reserve near Bainesse dairy factory, of noxious weeds. —Referred to works committee for attention. From the Waitohi school committee asking for a supply of metal for school paths. —Agreed to. From Mr. A. A. Easton, Foxton, requesting attention to a drain on No. 2 Line, Foxton.—Referred to works committee for investigation and report. From Mr. L. Beard, Mangawhata, complaining as to the condition of a drain on Pyke’s Road. —Referred to the works committee for attention and report. From Mr. W. T. Steele, Glen Oroua, drawing attention to the condition of a culvert on the road adjacent his property. —Referred to works committee for report. From the Publie Trustee, Palmerston North, drawing attention to the condition of a drain fronting C. E. Larsen’s property at Glen Oroua. —Referred to tho works committee for attention. From the Rongotea school committee requesting attention to the road fronting the school. —Referred to the engineer for attention. The county engineer’s report covered extensive maintenance work and referred to the Pukenui crushing plant which had turned out 3351 cubic yards of metal during July. The treasurer reported on the county finances as follows: County fund account debit £13,108 0s 3d, reserve account credit £20,000, loan account credit £240 19s Id. Receipts since the last meeting totalled £2898 10s Bd. The tramway manager reported that the earnings for the month were £IOB 15s fid and the running expenses £268 18s 6d, leaving a debit balance of £l6O 3s Id. The principal items of traffic were metal, 240 cubic yards and manure 23S tons.
