Hokowhitu Methodist Sunday School Anniversary

During the week-end happy gatherings were held in Hokowhitu to mark tiie occasion of the fourth anniversary |of the Hokowhitu Methodist Sunday 'School. On Saturday evening in the Bowling Club’s pavilion, 60 children sat down to a tea prepared by an energetic ladies ’ committee Mcsdames Green (convener), Silvester, Push and Hancock, the help of the iadies and Messrs. Kush and Hancock being greatly appreciated. A very happy interlude was the cutting of a birthday cake which had been presented by an anonymous donor. The tea was followed by the showing of films by Dr. T. C. Lonie. These were both instructive and entertaining, everyone being delighted with the films. Later many parents and friends attended when a programme was presented by the children and their teachers, the theme throughout was “The Life of Christ.” Features of the programme were a very interesting Flannelgraph demonstration, and the delightful singing of the children with the assistance of Miss L. Gordon at the piano. Deporting on the year 's wont, Mr. N*. A. Hunt, Superintendent, paid tribute to the stall' who had so loyally and efficiently conducted the Sunday School—Mrs.*E. Lock, Misses A. Fleck, E. Dixon, A. Stephens, J. Howe, and Mr. F. Woodfield. At the concluison of the programme each scholar was presented with a book or gift by their respective teachers. Special prizes donated by Mrs. Ashworth were won by Lois Aitchison and David Lockhead. On Sunday morning a special church service was conducted in the school by Rev. J. F. Jack, of St. Paul’s Methodist Church, when there was a good attendance of parents and friends with the children. Mr. Jack’s messages were very inspiring and well chosen for the occasion.
